It's that time again, MARCH FOR BABIES TIME!

It’s that time of year again - it’s March for Babies season! We all love walking for babies, lets start by kicking off Qhamatas team fundraising.

Every day, thousands of babies are born too soon, too small and often very sick. I'm walking in March for Babies because I want to do something about this. And I need your help.
Please support my walk. Making a secure donation is easy: just click the 'donate now' button on this page. Thank you for helping me give all babies a healthy start!
The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.

Finding my way back to me!

I have been in a rut since 2009 and I'm sure if you know me or follow me you know there were 3 significant changes for me that year.  Well since then I've had 2 more beautiful children, Khalifah 3 and Israfil almost 2.  And being pregnant back to back from 2009-2012 I haven't been able to loose the weight I gained to try and help keep my kids healthy.  So as of 12/30/2013 I have made the pledge to be healthier.  Also I want to loose the weight to see if I can't scrap some of the meds I have to take for my Fibromyalgia.

So this is me as of 1/12/2014 in one of my favorite outfits my DH bought me:

I finally figured out the timer on my phone camera (tee hee) so I will do better next time.

But I will continue to update the pictures monthly (Insha'Allah) and pray that by the start of Ramadan 1435 (June 28, 2014) I will have dropped up to 40 lbs and will not feel so stuffed in the outfit above.

Here's to a healthier 1435 (2014)

World Hijab Day

Oppressed! Subjugated! These are probably the words that come to your mind when you see a Muslim woman covered in Hijab (the Islamic modest covering of a woman). You assume it’s her father or some radical male member from her family who is forcing her to dress that way. At least that is what people say to you. That is how the media views Muslim women who cover. Let me ask you, have you heard of the famous sayings: “go straight to the source?” Or “walk a day in my shoes?” I am sure you have heard these a million times.
Let me use the first. I ask you sincerely, have you ever gone to the true source for information about Hijab and Islam?  Have you read books, asked scholars or visited a Mosque? Have you ever asked a Muslim woman why she is so covered in a world that seeks to shed as much clothing as possible?  If you asked a Muslim woman, she would inform you that the purpose behind her Hijab is to obey her Creator over the creation. Her Creator, Allah (God), did not legislate Hijab in order to oppress her, but rather to free her from the shackles of this world. He ordered Hijab as an honor and sign of dignity for women.
When a Muslim woman covers her hair, chest and body, she is sending a silent message that she respects her body and like a pearl in the ocean, she covers it with her beautiful shell (Hijab). No one has the right to observe, gawk at and judge a Muslim woman by the highlights in her hair or curves on her body. Instead they judge her for what is in her mind, her character, and her goals and ambitions.  Hijab is prevention from being accosted by ignorant minds who only judge a woman by the clothes she wears and the skin she shows. A woman’s body as you know is sacred and this is why Islam encourages women to strive to cover and protect it.
Let us return to the second saying, “Walk a day in my shoes.” This is where WHD comes in. What is that you ask? WHD is short for World Hijab Day. This second annual event will be held on February 1st, 2014 (God willing). On this day, we ask Non-Muslim and Non-Hijabi Muslim women worldwide to observe Hijab for a day. It will be a day for everyone willing to experience what it’s like to step inside the shoes of a Hijabi. Our hopes are no less than that. We wish you will gain a wealth of knowledge and experience a slightly different definition of FREEDOM.

Nelson Mandela first interview 1961

Great words from Mr. Qhamata: Remarkable! Nelson Mandela's first TV interview. He shot this while still  in hiding from the Boer. Haunted by the South African government for years until his capture, its amazing to watch and listen to his passion for his cause. Nelson Mandela is a legend that I believe will transcend time and the generations to come. The world and the African continent has lost one of its principle treasures. Long live Mandela!

It's been awhile

It's been awhile since I've posted.  Wow  how time passes.  Well let's catch up a little shall we.

Q: Business is good, school is going well.

Mama Q: Well this year I lost my Father on July 18th :( He was the last parental figure I had left alive so that was hard.  I um, started back to school to get my masters and the credits needed to sit for the CPA.  I'm another year older but still in my twenties (for now).

Africa: Almost 8 and in 2nd grade now :) YAY!! She is doing super so far.

Khalifah: Is 3 and not yet in school, but ready for it.  I've been working with her at home though.  She is a quick study.  Last weight in she was 35" tall and 29 lbs.

Israfil: Is 1.5 years old.  He has taken to screaming his words instead of talking.  He yells and points or whines.  uggh But he knows how to talk because he lets words slip so I know he knows, he just prefers to squeal, yelp, yell and whine. Last weight in he was 31" tall and 26 lbs. I know him and Khalifah are more like twins at this point instead of being 16 months apart.

Well that's the news for today.  I hope to come back sooner and update more often :)
