New inspiration

I found this website yesterday.  A woman on one of The Bump.coms message boards posted this picture

for Apple dumplings and the picture was linked to this website The Pioneer Woman.  And OMG I'm in love.  Being from the country myself and having my Nana (May God have mercy on her) being born in the early 1900's was a GREAT from scratch cooker.  I never really took to much interest in making the things myself just eating them, but being married with 2 kids and one on the way and my husband being so into making stuff ourselves because it's healthier (i.e. we know for real what's going in it) and cheaper than buying out for someone to make the same thing.  I've come up a little in my home cooking prowess and have slowly (much to my husbands dismay) began to try to branch out my cooking skills.

I think this website has definitely lit a small fire under me.  Again being from the country and knowing what real home country cooking tastes like I am in love and I pray God makes it easy on me to take some of these recipes and run with them.  I hope my family approves and I hope I do the Pioneer woman and my Nana proud.

Stay tuned for my hits and misses.

Insanely Easy Vegetarian Chili

I have done it again.  Below is a recipe I tried out last night because well the whole family has been under the weather and I heard on the weather that it was going to get cold so I thought some night warm hearty chili would do the trick.

We didn't have everything on the ingredients list but it still turned out pretty tasty.  DH ate 3 full bowls, Khalifah had a nice sized baby bowl and Africa even ate it without to many complaints ;).

I used fresh corn and kidney beans instead of canned.  We didn't have mushrooms.  I subbed tomatoes for ketchup chili powder for cayenne (only 1 tsp not the recommended tbsp) and Coriander for cumin.  Oh and I threw in about 1/4 tsp of salt for taste.

3/4 cup chopped carrots
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 cup chopped red bell pepper

bumper sticker of the day

Come to the darkside
we have

My Dearest Africa

On this day 6 years ago God bless my husband and I with the most priceless thing in the world.  Our oldest daughter Africa.

Time has flown and I love watching her grow.  From a little 7lb 8oz baby to a tall little lady.  I thank God and my husband for my daughter.  God because of course without him none of us would be and My husband because without him she would not be the little person she is today.

So on this day as my daughter has turned 6 I ask only that God bless her with many more days like today with health, happiness and family.

P.s. If you thought I wasn't gonna share some of your baby pix you are so sadly mistaken.

Anatomy Scan - Check

It's a.........Baby!

Today was my anatomy scan and I am proud to say that as of now I am still Team Green.  I do not know what we are having.  I have a paper of the sex written down, but that is for DH's eyes only.  Well in theory. I plan to let him and only him see.  I hope to avoid the urge to look tonight (or anytime today while it's in my possession).

The baby is healthy and a nice week ahead of schedule.  I go back in 8 weeks to keep an eye on my lady bits and the baby's growth. :D

I am so proud.  When the questionaire asked if I wanted to know I said no to put it away for Husband.  I even watched my gaze to keep from getting an accidental glimpse on the screen.  The doc was pretty good after he found it out at not going back to that area and not telling me either.  I'm sure this is not his first GREEN ultrasound so.  They also didn't put it anywhere in my chart so even my doctor (who I was surprised to find out didn't know until delivery) won't even know.  Soo Yeah for a mini milestone of making it through the u/s without caving.
At the anatomy scan, blessing in disguise DH decided to stay home and I answered no to wanting to know now so, so far so good. I may remain green for a little longer anyways.

19 Weeks

your baby's the size of a mango!
At about 6.0 inches long and weighing in at about 8.5 ounces, she's getting there!

This is where I stand, 19 weeks pregnant and almost half baked.  I have a very important decision to make between now and October 20th.  On that day I have my standard ob appointment and my appointment with the Perinatologist to do our Level II Anatomy scan.  This is a big day and as I said I have a big decision to make.  To stay green and not know what we are having or to find out and tell the world.

My dearest husband is finding out regardless of what I do, but it's a tough thing for me to pin point.  Being that we found out the others I like the element of surprise this go round.  And I have just read a story on the March 2012 board of The Bump where one of the mommies to be got to her A/s and as soon as the tech put the u/s (ultrasound) wand down there were the goods and she knew she had a little Boy coming.  Congrats to her.

I am soooo still on the fence. One day I feel like i'm ready to step down one way or the other and then I don't.  I give Kudos to all those moms that decided from day one and never veered from the road ahead. I have also been toying with the idea of finding out, but keeping it to myself so as to still have some element of surprise.

Weight gain/loss: Steady

Maternity clothes? sort of

Stretch marks? Nope

Sleep? what's that LOL

Best moment this week? On 10/20 it will be a healthy baby on track for Due date

Movement: Yes

Food cravings: not really

Gender: At this point still a surprise

Belly button in or out? Still in

What I miss? Caffeine

What I am looking forward to? V-day November 19th

Weekly wisdom: I have none LOL

As the world turns...

So as the days/weeks (and at some point the months) go by this time is getting closer and closer.  I'm excited to hear the birth of one of my high school friends son Hudson this past week.  He has had some issues, but is a trooper.  Another who is also a fellow blogger is Due in December and has reached the 3rd tri milestone marker.

I'm still floating around in the 2nd tri trying to get to the Anatomy scan on 10/20 which will put me 2day shy of 20 weeks and half baked.   And then V-day on November 19th.  I pray my LO makes it to March being that I'm due on the 10th and that's two weeks in and DD#2 barely made it into September being due on the 18th and came 2 weeks early on the 4th.  Whatever happens I'm counting down the days.

However my Dear Husband (DH) whom I love has been in this delusion that I won't have the baby till 3 weeks late in April.  We don't do birthdays, but I think it's wishful thinking that the baby will share a month with him.  He's cute and obviously thinks he's funny as well.

Daycare, Good Question

I've seen/come across more than one post about Daycares recently. And it's got me thinking. We have one school ager and will have 2 LO (little ones) that for the most part will be day care babies being that both DH and I are working during the day. Or even if he switches to a night time schedule I wouldn't put a toddler (who already thinks she runs the house) and an infant together to tag team him out of sleep. So I see daycare in the future.

One blessing I keep praying returns is Grandma Alimi. The best thing that happened to us when we were looking for somewhere for Khalifah to go when I was going back to work. She loves her and us like we are her own kids/grandkids. So Khalifah was so happy and taken care of. She had to stop to get her certifications together for her home daycare so we went to a real daycare. Unfortunately things weren't the best, but we had to do with what we had at the time.

Fast forwarding to today I'm 18 weeks 2 days pregnant due in March 2012. What on earth are we going to do? I really don't like searching and visiting daycares. It takes up forever and you may find ONE you really love only to find they have no space open for your kid(s).  Then comes the settling, but do you really want to settle with your child's welfare?  These are the thoughts running through my mind as we embark on another trip down baby lane... :)
